California College San Diego Receives Outstanding Community Partner Award

When Able-Disabled Advocacy came knocking on California College San Diego’s (CCSD) door about employment training and industry-recognized certifications for students in information technology and healthcare, the college quickly responded. Now CCSD has received an “Outstanding Community Partner” award from the same company. This partnership has given 40 graduates in medical and computer programs the opportunity to receive additional trainings such as technology certifications, employment assistance, and paid internships.

Able-Disabled Advocacy was founded in 1975 and works to create and expand career opportunities for individuals with all types of disabilities and employment barriers. Campus Director Ken Webb mentions, “This partnership allowed us to put our graduates into continuing education programs.”

Betty Navarette, director of Career Services at CCSD explains, “One of the most important goals for professionals is to have the skills and be ready for entering the job market and to contribute productively in their organizations.” Through Career Services, information session groups, applications, and in-person interviews, CCSD and Able-Disabled Advocacy narrowed down 40 graduates that want to work in the IT or Healthcare industry.

Navarette continues to mention, “This means a great deal to CCSD because we are giving our graduates the additional tools they need to be competitive in the job market and the opportunity to build relationships with the community.” CCSD wants to continue the partnership and has already started working with Able-Disabled Advocacy on another grant to help with enrollments in 2014.
